MEET OUR REGISTERED CLINICAL COUNSELLORS

Alex Turple MACP, R.C.C.

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a master’s degree in counselling psychology. I am here to connect with and help clients navigate challenges toward healing and empowerment, even when it seems impossible. I recognize the strength and courage it takes to ask for help and that it can be uncomfortable at the same time. Sometimes we may carry painful or unhelpful beliefs that can lead to a disconnect between our authentic self and those around us. We may feel stuck in our thoughts, feelings, or behaviours. Growth starts with slowing down and getting curious about what’s working and what’s not. When we are curious about how we show up in the world, change begins. Through this journey, I believe in supporting people to deepen their own self-understanding in a safe therapeutic space.

My vocational and academic experiences have provided me with a breadth of knowledge in working with adults, youth, and families. I work from a client-centred and integrative approach to address issues such as addiction and recovery, trauma, stress, anxiety, depression, OCD, and personality disorders. I utilize a variety of therapeutic modalities depending on what fits best for clients, including psychodynamic, DBT, CBT, ACT, CPT, solution-focused, and mindfulness-based therapies.

Chantelle MacInnis MACP, R.C.C.

I hold a master’s degree in counselling psychology, and have over 6 years’ experience working in the mental health field. I use a variety of therapeutic approaches, depending on the needs of the client, including Polyvagal Theory, Attachment Theory, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and Somatic Interventions. I love to learn and am trained in Observed Experiential Training (Level 1), Motivational Interviewing, Emotional Focused Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, and Gottman Method Couples Therapy.

I work with individuals who experience trauma, grief, low self-esteem, anxiety, and relationship difficulties. I also work with couples who experience betrayal, ongoing conflict, communication challenges, and disconnection.

I work from a client-centered, trauma-informed approach and believe that individuals intrinsically have what they need to live fulfilling, authentic lives. Unfortunately, for many of us, we are struggling to manage life’s demands, and feel like we are merely surviving. This is a common experience for many people at various times in their life. You are not alone. There is hope and healing is possible. I strive to provide a safe, trusting space to explore your reasons for seeking counselling, and help you to develop the tools you need to move successfully through life.

Betty Lapeyre

Betty Lapeyre M.Ed., R.C.C.

I am a registered clinical counsellor (#12070) with a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology, and have 20 years of experience working with children, youth and families as an educator, and 10 years experience in counselling. I provide individual therapy for youth & adults and support them to open themselves to regain their strength and potential. I work collaboratively with client’s and respect their freedom and responsibility in the process.

We all experience pain, hardship and difficult life situations, and we often reach the point where it can feel unmanageable. I realize that it is not easy to reach out for support, and this takes courage and understanding. As a counsellor, I support clients to develop greater sense of self-awareness, tap into their strengths and resources, and navigate their thoughts and emotions to take on challenges and overcome them.

I specialize in a variety of issues including: anxiety, depression, trauma, personal growth, self-esteem, avoidance behaviors, relationships, and grief and loss. I have a client centered approach to counselling, and utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches including acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused, interpersonal, mindfulness, etc.

I regard the client as an equal in the therapy process. Emotional well-being and mental health influence our general health and how we interact with others, make decisions, face challenges, and live our lives. I believe that freedom in life, even with painful challenges, is possible, and everyone has the ability to live the life they want.

ADHD Counselling

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD, is a chronic condition that typically emerges in childhood. Patients with ADHD tend to be hyperactive, having difficulty sustaining attention and being prone to impulsive behavior. Not surprisingly, these behaviours can cause other issues, like low self-esteem, relationship challenges and difficulty at school. For some, these symptoms diminish with age, but others may deal ADHD for their entire life.

ADHD Treatment

Fortunately, there are medications, treatments and strategies that can help ADHD patients cope with symptoms and lead productive, happy lives. Early diagnosis is key, so if you think ADHD might be affecting you or your loved ones, you should consult a counselling professional.

Trauma Counselling

The term “trauma” is used to describe the process of experiencing a frightening and distressful event or series of events. Because people experience trauma in different ways, it’s not always easy to define or anticipate whether an event will be traumatic.

Trauma Examples

Traumatic events include car accidents, house fires, assaults, and other types of violence. Natural disasters, like floods and earthquakes, can also cause trauma. In addition, trauma can involve an ongoing series of events, such as sexual assault and childhood neglect.

Responses to Trauma

The specific response depends on the individual. However, depression, anxiety, drinking, drug use, eating disorders and self-harm are common trauma responses.

Anxiety Counselling

Anxiety is not a disease. It’s a natural defense mechanism for dealing with threats that shifts our body into a state of maximum alertness. We lose focus on the task at hand as we divert our attention to whatever the perceived threat is. Adrenaline flows, and we may feel fearful or vulnerable as our mind focuses on solutions.

When Anxiety Becomes Unhealthy

Anxiety only becomes unhealthy when it is a chronic, consuming part of our daily lives. Left untreated, anxiety can cause debilitating emotional and physical damage. Fortunately, there are counselling solutions, like cognitive behavioural therapy, that can help anxiety sufferers cope with anxiety disorders.

Grief Counselling

Feeling grief is a normal reaction to loss, often in response to the death of a loved one. The grieving process can take months or even years, as the grieving person works through emotions such as sadness and anger, along with feelings of guilt, yearning and regret.

Rebuilding and Recovering from Grief

Loss is not just emotional. It is foundational and practical, too. If you’ve lost someone close to you, you will have to rebuild the daily routines they were part of, and you may have to rebuild the identity you shared with them. This is not a simple or easy task, and grief counselling can be helpful in recovery process.
