EMDR IN KAMLOOPS

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Are you struggling with memories that just won’t let go, no matter how hard you try to move on? Do you find yourself reliving past traumas, feeling the same distress as if they just happened? EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy might be the answer you’ve been searching for.

EMDR is a form of non-invasive, evidence-based psychotherapy, that helps people recover from the emotional and psychological aftermath of trauma. Trauma can have lasting effects on the brain that disrupt our ability to cope with and bounce back from life’s challenges. With EMDR therapy, patients reprocess those painful memories until they no longer stand in the way of healthy functioning.

EMDR therapy works by engaging your brain’s natural healing processes to help “unfreeze” traumatic memories. During sessions, your counsellor will guide you to recall distressing images while using bilateral sensory input, such as side-to-side eye movements or hand tapping, to access both hemispheres of your brain. This process allows the brain to reprocess these memories, reducing or even eliminating their emotional charge. While the memories themselves remain, the distress they once caused is significantly diminished. EMDR has been widely researched and is considered highly effective in treating conditions such as PTSD, anxiety, and depression.

If you or someone you love is struggling with the effects of trauma, anxiety, and or distressing memories, we are here to help. Schedule a free and confidential 15 minute consultation with our highly trained EMDR therapist.
